My Day Out at Nonesuch River Golf Club
Okay, so I ended up at Nonesuch River Golf Club the other day. Wasn’t really planned, you know? Woke up, felt like I needed some air, some space. Work’s been piling up, the usual stuff. Just needed to get out of my own head for a bit.

Remembered someone mentioning this place, Nonesuch River. Said it was pretty relaxed, not too stuffy. That sounded about right for what I needed. Didn’t want some super fancy place where you feel like you need a tie just to walk in.
So, I just decided, right then and there. Threw my old clubs in the trunk. Haven’t used them in ages, honestly. Not sure why I keep ’em. Maybe for days exactly like this.
Getting there was easy enough. Drove down, found the place without much trouble. First impression? Yeah, it felt pretty chill. Parking lot wasn’t jammed, people seemed pretty normal, just folks looking to hit a ball around. No one looked like they were heading to a board meeting afterwards.
Walked into the pro shop. Guy behind the counter was friendly. Just got my greens fee sorted, didn’t try to upsell me on a bunch of stuff I didn’t need. Grabbed a cart, because let’s be honest, I wasn’t feeling like walking the whole thing.
Out on the course, it was… well, it was golf. I’m no pro, not even close. Spent a fair bit of time looking for my ball in the rough. That’s part of the fun, right? Or maybe just part of my game.

- The grass was green. Sounds dumb to say, but it really was. Nice change from looking at screens all day.
- It was pretty quiet out there, especially on the back nine. Just the sound of swinging clubs, birds, that sort of thing.
- Hit a few decent shots. Enough to make me think, “Hey, maybe I’m not totally terrible.” Then I’d shank the next one into the woods. Keeps you humble, golf does.
Saw a couple of deer near the tree line on one hole. Just standing there, watching. Made me stop for a second. Funny how you forget about stuff like that when you’re stuck in the daily grind.
Didn’t keep score properly. Wasn’t the point, really. The point was just being out there, swinging a club, walking (okay, riding mostly) around in the fresh air. Didn’t think about work emails once, which has got to be a win.
Finished up, dropped off the cart. Didn’t hang around much afterwards. Just got back in the car, felt a bit looser, maybe a bit less wound up than when I arrived. It did the job. Cleared my head, like I wanted.
Overall thoughts? Yeah, Nonesuch River Golf Club was alright. Simple, straightforward place to play golf. Nothing fancy, but it doesn’t pretend to be. Just a solid spot to escape for a few hours. Would I go back? Probably. Next time I feel the need to lose a few golf balls and find a bit of quiet, it’s definitely an option.
