Alright, so today I’m gonna ramble about something I was messing around with – trying to figure out who the famous players for the Washington Redskins (now Commanders, but still…) are. It was more of a “bored on a Sunday afternoon” kinda thing, ya know?

First thing I did was just a straight-up Google search: “Redskins famous players.” I mean, gotta start somewhere, right? Got the usual list of names popping up – guys like Sammy Baugh, Sonny Jurgensen, John Riggins. Names I’d heard before, but didn’t really know, know?
Then I figured, okay, gotta dig a little deeper. So I started poking around on some sports sites. ESPN, *, that kinda stuff. Looked for articles about the team’s history, lists of greatest players, that sort of thing. Found a few decent articles that gave a bit more context to the names I already had.
But that wasn’t enough. I wanted to see some of these guys. So I hopped over to YouTube. Searched for old game highlights, documentaries, anything I could find. That’s where it got interesting. Watching Riggins just bulldoze through defenses, seeing Baugh throwing those bombs… it really gave me a feel for why these guys were legends.
I even went down a bit of a rabbit hole, looking up some of the more recent “famous” players. Guys like Art Monk and Darrell Green. Found some cool interviews with them, talking about their careers and the team’s history. It was kinda cool to hear it straight from the source, ya know?
- Sammy Baugh: The OG Slingin’ Sammy. Apparently, this dude played like every position.
- Sonny Jurgensen: Smooth quarterback, a real gunslinger.
- John Riggins: The Diesel. That Super Bowl run was legendary.
- Art Monk: Consistent, reliable, a true pro.
- Darrell Green: Fastest man in the NFL for years. An absolute beast at cornerback.
Ended up just spending a few hours clicking around, watching old footage, reading articles. Nothing earth-shattering, but it was a fun way to kill an afternoon. Definitely got a better appreciation for the team’s history and some of the guys who made it what it is.

What I Learned (Besides the Obvious)
The biggest takeaway? Just how much the game has changed. The old footage is so different from what you see today. And also, how much these players meant to the city. You could really feel the passion in the old interviews and highlight reels.
Anyway, that’s the story. Just a little Sunday afternoon exploration. Maybe I’ll do the Cowboys next time… just kidding (kinda).
