So, I asked around, and they tell me this NASCAR start time is somethin’ you gotta know. It’s like plantin’ seeds, gotta do it at the right time, or nothin’ will grow. This year, it is on November 10th, they say. That’s a Sunday, like a church day. And the time, now that’s important, is 3 p.m. ET. What’s ET? I don’t know, must be somethin’ important for the race.
They say this race, it’s called the NASCAR Cup Series Championship. Sounds fancy, huh? Like a big party with prizes and all. And it’s the last one of the year, so everyone’s all riled up ’bout it.

That’s what I heard. Someplace called Phoenix Raceway. Don’t know where that is, but it sounds hot. Maybe like our summers here, but with more cars. These races, they go all over, I hear. Different places every time. This one, I don’t know the place. But I hear the cars go fast. They also say it takes less than one minute for the cars to go around. That’s fast. I can’t even walk to the mailbox that quick.

Now, I don’t get all this racin’ stuff. But I hear folks talkin’, and they get all excited ’bout the NASCAR schedule. They say there’s a whole bunch of these races, all year long. Some on Saturdays, some on Sundays. Different times, too. Like that one time they had a race at 8 p.m. on February 2. They call it the Clash at Bowman Gray. Sounds like a fight. And the place, Bowman Gray Stadium, sounds like a big place. I can’t keep up with all of these. It is too much.
And this NASCAR race time, it changes, I hear. Sometimes it’s in the afternoon, sometimes at night. Depends on the race, I guess. Like that other one they postponed, something ’bout rain or somethin’. They moved it to February 19 at 4 p.m. ET. I don’t know why they don’t just race when the sun’s out. And then they moved it again to August 19 at 11 a.m. ET. This is so confusing. How do people know when to watch?
Why Folks Like NASCAR
I reckon folks like it ’cause it’s excitin’. Cars goin’ fast, engines roarin’, crowds cheerin’. It’s like a big show. And there’s all these drivers, with their fancy cars and names. They’re like celebrities, I guess. I see them on the TV sometimes, and they’re always talkin’ ’bout their cars and their teams. It’s a whole world, this NASCAR thing.

You know, my old bones ain’t what they used to be. I don’t get out much these days. But I like to listen to people talk, ‘specially ’bout these races. It is somethin’ different, somethin’ excitin’. I remember my husband, he used to like watchin’ those cars go round and round. He’d yell at the TV like he was in the race himself. I never understood it, but it made him happy. And another thing, this ain’t the only race. They got races all year long. I heard ’bout one called the Xfinity 500. Don’t know what that means, but it sounds important. Then there was this one race at a place called Watkins Glen International. They got some practice time and all that. But the main thing is to know the NASCAR race time, I suppose. It is important.
I think it is good that people have something they like. This NASCAR, it brings folks together. They get excited, they cheer, they have fun. That is important. We need more fun in this world. So, even if I don’t understand it, I am glad it makes people happy. And who knows, maybe one day I will watch one of these races and see what all the fuss is about. Maybe I will even like it. You never know.
