Okay, so today I wanted to figure out something simple: What’s 10 percent of 100? Seems easy enough, right? But I wanted to actually see it, not just do the math in my head.

First, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. I like doing things the old-fashioned way sometimes. It just feels more… real, you know?
Visualizing It
- I drew a big square on the paper. This square represents the number 100. Think of it like a big pizza, the whole thing.
- Then, I divided that square into ten equal strips. Kind of like slicing the pizza into ten big slices. Each of these strips stands for 10. Because 10 x 10 = 100.
- Next, I shaded in just ONE of those strips. Just one slice of that pizza.
And there it was! By shading in just one strip out of the ten, I could clearly see that 10 percent of 100 is 10. It’s like, duh, it’s so obvious when you look at it this way.
I know, I know, you could just multiply 100 by 0.10 and get the same answer. But for me, actually drawing it out and seeing the proportions made it click in a different way. Sometimes, going back to basics is the best way to really understand something, even if it’s super simple.
