Yesterday, I was watching a movie on Netflix called “Hustle”, and there’s a character in it named Bo Cruz. I thought, hey, this guy seems pretty interesting. So, I did what any normal person would do – I started digging around to find out more about him.

First off, I found out that Bo Cruz isn’t a real person. Yeah, I know, bummer, right? He’s a fictional character, made up by these two guys, Taylor Materne and Will Fetters, who wrote the movie. They did a pretty good job, though, ’cause I was totally convinced he was real for a while.
Anyway, in the movie, Bo Cruz is played by this Spanish actor, Juancho Hernangomez. Apparently, it was his first time acting, which is kinda cool. He’s actually a basketball player in real life, which makes sense since Bo Cruz is a basketball player in the movie.
- I went down this rabbit hole of watching clips and interviews. Juancho, or Bo, in the movie, he’s this single dad from Spain. Plays streetball to make some money.
- Then there’s this other character, Stanley, played by Adam Sandler. He’s a scout for the Philadelphia 76ers, and he sees potential in Bo.
- The whole story is about Stanley trying to get Bo into the NBA. It’s a classic underdog story, you know?
So, I spent a good chunk of my day watching these two on screen. It’s kinda funny how you can get so invested in a character that’s not even real. But hey, that’s the magic of movies, right?
In the end, Bo Cruz does get drafted into an NBA team, but not the 76ers, which is a bit of a twist. I won’t spoil the whole movie for you, but it’s a pretty good watch if you’re into sports movies.
I guess the whole point of this little adventure was just to satisfy my curiosity. And maybe to appreciate the work that goes into creating these characters and stories that can feel so real to us. It’s a nice reminder of how powerful storytelling can be.

Now, I am gonna move on to something else, maybe find another interesting character to dive into. Who knows what I’ll find next? That’s the fun of it, right?
