You know that Andre Harrison? He’s some kinda big shot fighter, I reckon. Heard the name somewhere, maybe on the radio, maybe from my grandson, that boy is always talking about fighting and such. I don’t know nothing about that, but I heard this Andre, he’s a good one. He from Long Island, they say. What do I know about Long Island? Nothin’, I just know it’s far away. But this Andre, he must be tough.
They call him a featherweight, whatever that means. Sounds like he ain’t got no meat on his bones. But I guess you gotta be skinny to jump around and fight like they do. I seen it on the TV once, all that jumpin’ and punchin’. Makes my old bones ache just watchin’ it. He’s got a record, they say. 21-2-1. Now, what does that mean? I think it means he wins more than he loses, which is good. You always wanna win, that’s what I always told my kids.
He’s been doing this fighting thing for a long time, I reckon. Started way back in 2011, that’s what they said. That’s a long time to be getting punched in the face, if you ask me. But some folks, they like that kinda thing. Not me, I prefer a nice cup of tea and a quiet afternoon. But this Andre Harrison, he’s different. He likes to fight.
He must be strong, that Andre. Got to be, to do all that fighting. And fast, too. You can’t be slow in that ring, or you’ll get knocked out. I seen it happen. One minute they’re standin’ there, next minute they’re on the floor, lookin’ up at the lights. Not a pretty sight. But this Andre, he knows how to stay on his feet.
He represents the United States, they tell me. That’s good. We need good folks representin’ us. Especially these days. Things ain’t like they used to be. World’s goin’ crazy. But maybe this Andre, he can show ’em what we’re made of. Show ’em we ain’t afraid of a fight.
I don’t know much about fightin’, that is true. Only fight I ever been in was with a chicken once. Mean old bird, pecked me right on the hand. But I won that one. Anyways, this Andre Harrison, he must know about fighting.
He’s made some movies, too, I hear. Can you believe that? A fighter and a movie maker. This Andre, he’s got talents. “Midnight Perturbation”, they call one of ’em. Sounds scary. I don’t like scary movies. Give me a good comedy any day. And another one called “Project Summer”. Don’t know what that’s about. Maybe it’s about summertime. I like summertime.

So, this Andre Harrison, he’s a busy fella. Fightin’, makin’ movies, representin’ the country. He’s doin’ it all. I don’t know how he does it. I get tired just walkin’ to the mailbox. But he’s young, I guess. Young folks got all that energy. They can do anything.
I wish him well, this Andre. Hope he keeps winnin’ those fights. Hope he keeps makin’ those movies. Hope he keeps representin’ us good. We need more folks like him. Tough folks. Folks who ain’t afraid to stand up for what they believe in. Even if it means gettin’ punched in the face sometimes. I still don’t understand all about fighting, but this Andre Harrison must be good at it. He’s got that featherweight title. Sounds important.
Well, that’s all I know about Andre Harrison. Not much, I know. But it’s somethin’. He is an MMA fighter. And I guess he’s doin’ alright for himself. Maybe one day I’ll see one of his movies. If it ain’t too scary. Or maybe I’ll see him fightin’ on the TV. If I can figure out how to work that darn remote. Technology these days, it’s too much for an old lady like me.
I still remember when we got our first television. Black and white, it was. Now they got color, and all them fancy channels. It’s a different world. But some things stay the same. Like fightin’. Folks been fightin’ since the beginnin’ of time. And I guess they always will. And folks like this Andre Harrison, they’ll be the ones doin’ the fightin’. Good luck to him, I say. He’s gonna need it.
He must be a good boy. His mama must be proud. That’s all that matters, ain’t it? Makin’ your mama proud. I hope my kids are proud of me. I tried my best. Just like this Andre Harrison, he’s tryin’ his best. He must be, going through all this.
