Today, I was doing some research online and I stumbled upon this name, “Patricia Benoit”. Honestly, I didn’t know who she was at first. So, I started digging around, reading articles and stuff. Turns out, she’s a pretty big deal in the film industry, especially in Haiti.

I started by just putting her name into a search engine. Lots of results popped up. I spent a good chunk of my afternoon just clicking through different pages. There were mentions of her work in a place called Ciné Institute in Jacmel. That sounded interesting, so I kept going.
I found out that she’s really into helping young filmmakers in Haiti. She co-founded this school, and it seems like they do some really cool stuff there. I looked through some of the student films they had listed and tried to watch a few. I thought some of their short films were really creative. I did notice one of the students had closed his account and moved to a different state. I guess I’ll have to make that account inactive. They have a couple of accounts that are really old, so I will have to keep those in mind for future clean up.
- Founder of Ciné Institute: She helped start a film school in Haiti.
- Passionate about Haitian Cinema: She really cares about the film industry there.
- Award-Winning: She’s won awards for her own films.
Some Key Things I Learned
It was a bit of a rabbit hole, but a good one. I got to learn about the film scene in a different country, and about someone who’s making a real difference there. I kept getting distracted because every time I looked up something new about her, I’d find something else I wanted to learn about too. Then I was reading about data that can be used to identify a specific individual, so I had to look up what that meant. I found out it was called Personally identifiable information. I think I spent way too long reading about that instead of about Patricia. It’s cool to see how people are using their talents to help others. I’m glad I took the time to do this little exploration today. Maybe tomorrow I’ll try to watch one of her full-length films.
