So, the other day I was digging into some old history stuff, just for fun, you know? And I stumbled upon this whole “kings of Rome” thing. We all know about the Roman Empire and its emperors, but it turns out, way before them, there were kings. Seven of them, to be precise, at least according to the legends.

I started with Romulus, the very first king. The stories say he founded Rome in 753 BC. That’s a long, long time ago! He built the city on Palatine Hill. I always found these foundation stories fascinating. After Romulus, there were six more kings, and their rule lasted until 509 BC, when the last one was kicked out. No more kings, they decided. But that’s where it got tricky for me.
I was thinking, “Okay, seven kings, then the republic, and then boom, the emperors we all know and love, like Julius Caesar.” But here’s the kicker: Julius Caesar wasn’t the first emperor. He took over in 48 BC, but the empire didn’t start with him. So who was the first emperor?
That’s when I found out about this guy, Augustus. His real name was Gaius Octavius, pretty normal, right? But this dude, he became the first Roman emperor. Not Julius, but Augustus. He started his reign in 27 BC and stayed in power until he died in 14 AD. That’s a long time to rule an empire. And he even got people to worship him and other emperors after death, like some kind of imperial cult. Talk about leaving a mark!
I found this picture of a bronze head of Augustus. Pretty cool, huh? It made it all feel more real. This guy, Augustus, he basically turned the Roman Republic into a monarchy, but he did it in a way that brought peace and stability. He was smart, I gotta give him that. He called himself the “first citizen” but, come on, he was the boss.
- Born: September 23, 63 BC
- Died: August 19, 14 AD, in Nola, near Naples
- Real Name: Gaius Octavius (later Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus)
I spent hours reading about him, and the more I read, the more I realized, this is the guy. The eighth king of Rome, in a way. He wasn’t called a king, but he was the first emperor, the one who really started it all after the kings were long gone.

So, yeah, that’s my little history adventure. From Romulus to Augustus, it’s a wild ride. And to think, it all started with a guy named Gaius Octavius, who became the eighth king, the first emperor, the big boss of the Roman Empire. History is full of surprises, isn’t it?
And guess what? They called him Octavianus too. What a name!
But here is the fun part, the tags, they make it so easy to find stuff. Like these:
- Augustus The Emperor
- Roman Empire
- Ancient Rome
- Julius Caesar
What a history!
They say he ruled for over four decades. Four decades! Imagine that.
Anyways, I just wanted to share my little discovery. It’s not every day you find an “eighth king” hiding in plain sight. Keep digging, folks, you never know what you’ll find!
