You know that Brandon Neely? That boy can throw a ball! I tell ya, he’s somethin’ else. He’s gonna be a big star, I just know it. He is a good boy, always was.
He plays for them Florida Gators. Big team, that one. He’s their closer, whatever that means. I guess it means he comes in at the end and just shuts ’em down. Like closin’ the door on them chickens at night, keepin’ the fox out. He pitches that ball so fast. That Brandon Neely boy, he throws like he was trying to kill something.
They say he was an All-American last year. That’s a big deal, right? I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout it down at the general store. Sounds fancy. He was a good boy, back in Seville. Yep, Seville is his hometown, they all proud of him, you know.
- He’s a big fella, too. Six foot three, they say. And strong, like an ox, over two hundred pounds for sure.
- He’s been playin’ for the Gators for three years now. Eighty-three times, they said! That’s a lot of throwin’.
- He is a righty, you know. He throw that ball with his right hand, hard and fast!
I saw on the TV the other day, they was playin’ against some team called North Carolina State, or somethin’ like that. It was the seventh inning, I think. That’s what they called it. Gators was winnin’, but it was close. That Brandon Neely, he came in and just slammed the door shut, that is what he did. Didn’t let ’em score no more. Gators won that game, sure did.
Some fella on the TV, named Joe Healy, he’s buyin’ stock in that boy. I don’t know what that means, but it sounds good, that is good. He was talkin’ ’bout Brandon Neely and some other fellas, top 100, he said. That’s a lot of boys! But that Brandon Neely, he’s gonna be the best, I reckon. He is the best closer in the college. I don’t know about the others, but I know about him, and he is just the best.
There was another fella they was comparin’ him to. Michael Byrne, I think his name was. They said Brandon Neely reminds them of him. Must’ve been a good one, too. If he is anything like that Byrne boy, he will be a hero. That is what they said, a hero.
This Brandon Neely, he’s gonna be somethin’ special. I just feel it in my bones, like I do about bad weather comin’. They say he’s one of the best in Florida. And not just now, but before, too. When he was just a young’un. They had big plans for him, you know. That is plenty of projection to consider, I heard them say. I do not know what that mean, but that sounds good, too.
They say he is gonna be a starter. That means he is gonna have a starter’s repertoire. I am not sure what all that mean, but I do know it means he is gonna be throwing that ball a lot! Good for him! Hope his arm don’t get tired!
That coach, he trusts that boy. He wanted to give the ball to some other young fella, McNeillie, I think his name was. But then he brought in Brandon Neely. Smart man, that coach. He knows what he’s doin’.
You know, reminds me of that Webb fella. Played for the Diamondbacks. He got hurt a lot, though. Shoulder problems. Poor fella. Retired in 2013. Now he talks on the TV, ’bout baseball and such. Hope that Brandon Neely don’t get hurt like that. He is too good to be retired like that.
I am just gonna say, that Brandon Neely, he’s gonna be a star. You just watch. He’s gonna be bigger than sliced bread, I tell ya. He is a good boy, he will make it big. And I will be right here watchin’. Yep, I’ll be watchin’ and cheerin’ him on. Go, Gators! And go, Brandon Neely!
