Today, I messed around with the logo for the Colorado Rockies. I have always thought that their logo looks really cool, so I wanted to see if I could make something like it.
First, I took a good look at the actual Rockies logo. I really like their color of purple, inspired by the line “For purple mountain majesties” in “America the Beautiful”, it’s so unique, but the logo’s color lacked uniformity before, until they finally made PMS 2685 the official purple since 2017. I also noticed they use a special font called MLB Colorado Rockies, which is pretty much like Bembo Bold. It’s used on everything – jerseys, names, you name it.
I started by sketching out some ideas, trying to get that same vibe as the real logo. It was a bit tricky because I wanted it to be recognizable, but also, you know, my own thing. I used the same purple and tried to mimic the font as best as I could. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a good start.
I think logos are super important for brands. They are like the face of the company. You see a good logo, and you instantly know what it is, right? Like, think about those world famous logos, even without the brand names, you just know.

- It tells a story.
For the Rockies, their logo is a big deal. They are one of the few MLB teams that haven’t won a World Series yet. That’s gotta be tough, but their logo is still strong. And it’s worth $1.48 billion. That’s a lot of money!
After a few tries, I finally got something I was happy with. It wasn’t exactly like the Rockies logo, but it had the same feel. I showed it to a couple of friends, and they liked it too. They said it looked professional, which was cool to hear.
What I learned
This whole thing made me realize how much work goes into designing a logo. It’s not just about making something that looks nice. It has to represent the entire brand. It’s a big responsibility! I’m not a professional designer or anything, but it was fun to try and create something like this. Maybe one day, I’ll design a real logo for a team or a company. That would be awesome.
