Mostly I didn’t miss it. Or, if it was truly important, the thought would pop back into my head the next morning, clear as day. It was like my brain itself was doing the filtering, forced by my own chaotic action.
I started calling this messy process “bangnia” in my head. Just a silly name. But it stuck.
Refining the Chaos a Bit
Over time, I got a bit less, uh, destructive. I didn’t want to actually lose crucial work. So, “bangnia” evolved. Here’s what it looks like for me now, more or less:
- The Big Sweep: Still do a major shutdown of tabs and apps. But now, before I do, I take like, 60 seconds. Just one minute. I quickly scan: is there anything I’m actively working on right now that must be saved? If so, I save it. Everything else? Still fair game for the chop.
- The “Cooling Off” Folder: Instead of just closing and deleting, sometimes I’ll drag a bunch of files or links into a temporary folder named something like “Bangnia – [Date]”. Then, I ignore it. If I haven’t needed anything from it in a week, the whole folder gets nuked. If I do need something, I pull it out, and it proves its worth.
- Trusting the Next Day’s Brain: This is still the core. If an idea or a task was genuinely important, it resurfaces. If it doesn’t, maybe it wasn’t that critical after all. It’s a harsh truth, but it cuts through the noise.
Why This Mess Works for Me
Look, I’m not saying this is for everyone. It’s born out of my own tendency to be a digital hoarder. I’d keep tabs open “just in case” for weeks. My project folders would become swamps. “Bangnia” is my way of fighting that. It’s less about perfect organization and more about forcing clarity.

You see, I realized that trying to meticulously file everything was taking up more brainpower than just dealing with the occasional “oops, I closed that too soon.” And the mental relief of just wiping the slate clean, even if artificially? Pretty huge.
